A LAND WAITING TO BE DISCOVERED
CIVITA CASTELLANA
Civita Castellana is located on a tuffaceous spur, between the deep gorges of two tributaries of the Treja, at the foot of the Cimini Mountains, along the Via Flaminia. It is renowned as the capital of the Falisci in pre-Roman times. It conserves a vast artistic and archaeological heritage: the Cosmati Cathedral, the Sangallo Fortress and the Via Amerina are just some highlights.
ROMA
Rome the Eternal City is truly unique in the world: it offers a complete representation of European and Mediterranean history. There is always something new waiting to be discovered in Rome. The Colosseum, the Pantheon, Saint Peter's Square and countless other sights await you, just a 45 minute car ride away from Residenza Antica Flaminia.
VITERBO
Journey time to the provincial capital is approximately 35 minutes by car. A remarkable destination which has integrally maintained its ancient Medieval hamlet structure. The characteristic San Pellegrino neighbourhood constitutes the city's heart, rich in artefacts dating back to the era of papal glory. Alleyways lead you on a journey of discovery of truly fascinating neighbourhoods and buildings, such as the remarkable Palazzo dei Papi. The ancient houses of San Pellegrino are home to numerous art workshops, where you can find original and even valuable artefacts. At Viterbo you can also experience the beneficial effects of spa waters at the extraordinary Terme dei Papi complex: the Bullicame spring has been acclaimed for its therapeutic properties since time immemorial.
BAGNAIA
Rightly famous for Villa Lante, dating back to the Renaissance, it is also a pleasant city of Medieval origin, featuring a picturesque Medieval hamlet which developed around the castle. Villa Lante was designed by Vignola in 1578 and is one of the most eminent examples of Renaissance architecture, located just 35 minutes away by car.
CALCATA
Located approximately 20 minutes away by car, nestled on a cliff edge, it dominates the Treia gorge and offers panoramic views of spellbinding beauty. The entrance to the town is particularly evocative, with its double Medieval gate set in stone walls. The central square leads to small and characteristic alleyways still prevalently occupied by artisans and artists.
CAPRAROLA
Palazzo Farnese is located in the town of Caprarola, approximately 25 minutes away by car. It was erected in the early sixteenth century by Sangallo on a pre-existing rock with a pentagonal floor plan, and dominates the entire countryside. Cardinal Alessandro Farnese chose it as his residence, in virtue of its fortunate position.
CIVITA DI BAGNOREGIO
Civita di Bagnoregio is approximately 55 minutes away by car. Referred to as the “Dying City”, due to the slow yet inexorable landslides of the tuffaceous walls, it offers visitors unforgettable scenarios. Its only connection to the rest of the world is a narrow and long bridge. Civita di Bagnoregio dominates a marvellous valley, nestled on a jutting cliff top. It truly is one of Italy's most beautiful towns.
BOMARZO AND THE PARK OF THE MONSTERS
The Sacred Bomarzo Wood is just a 30 minute car journey away, more commonly referred to as the Park of the Monsters. A veritable treasure beckoning to be discovered. For 500 years these woods have been inhabited by mythological and gigantic stone monsters which inspire fear, surprise and marvel in all visitors, from when they were first completed by the architect Pirro Ligorio, commissioned by Prince Pier Francesco Orisini.
ORVIETO
An extremely popular tourist destination in virtue of its numerous works of art as well as its beautiful and suggestive location. Located approximately 40 minutes away by car. Apart from its fascination and history, it is a lively city, rich in events.
NARNI
A Medieval city located approximately 25 minutes away by car with a surprising underground path, containing secrets of the Holy Inquisition, complete with instruments of torture as well as a cell where graffiti by prisoners is still visible and where you can find out more about some truly fascinating stories.
THE SORATTE BUNKER
The Mount Soratte Natural Reserve is just 20 minutes away by car. A unique site which dominates over the entire Tiber valley, a popular destination for hikers, in virtue of its paths leading to numerous hermitages and monasteries. Mount Soratte contains an underground bunker which upon Mussolini's will became an air raid shelter for high officers of the Italian army between 1937 and 1943. During the Cold War it was transformed into a nuclear bunker.
